Neglecting Daily Brushing

This results in the potential for gum disease, halitosis, and dental decay.

Dentures should be cleaned with a soft-bristled toothbrush, ideally, after every meal. It is best to avoid regular toothpaste, as it is highly abrasive and can scratch the materials. Once thoroughly brushed, one’s artificial teeth can enter a soaking solution overnight.

Avoiding the Dentist for Regular Checkups

It might seem futile to continue regular dental appointments after receiving dentures, but these visits are vital to the success of a longer-lasting smile. Without them, damage may go unnoticed, or ill-fitting dentures may lead to irritation and discomfort.

Wearing Dentures While Sleeping

This is because moist places, such as between the denture and gums, can harbor bad bacteria, which can negatively affect a person’s overall health and well-being.

Chewing Gum

No matter the type of gum, it is best to avoid it altogether while wearing dentures. This sticky, chewy substance can dislodge an upper or lower prosthetic from its location, making it a cause for concern when around others.

Instead, it is best to reach for a mint or mouthwash if trying to get rid of bad breath.
