Moving? 6 Questions to Ask to Find the Right Dentist

finding the right dentist

Recently, a long-time patient of mine here at Grand Dental in Franklin Park mentioned that he and his family were going to be moving to Naperville in a few months’ time. Naturally, he was looking for recommendations on a new dental practice for his family, and I had great news to share. As luck would have it, we have a Naperville location as well! Though his situation turned out to be a very simple one, it got me thinking of how common it must be for people to move to new cities where their current dental practice doesn’t happen to have another location. Perhaps you’re new to our area and looking for a new dentist. To help you find the best practice for you, I’ve come up with several questions you can ask yourself during your search:

One: Do They Offer Comprehensive Services?

There has probably been at least one time in your life when you were told you needed a treatment by a specialist, but they wouldn’t be able to treat you at their practice. This can be especially inconvenient if you were a new patient with that practice to begin with, as now you will have to go through another new patient process with a different doctor. Finding a dental practice like ours that offers comprehensive services all the way from regular checkups to cosmetic and restorative dentistry can make your life much easier. Regardless of the treatment you need, make sure your dentist of choice will have you covered at their location.

Two: How Modern is Their Technology?

The dental industry is constantly evolving and so is the technology that drives it. It’s important to make sure that the dentist’s office you choose has been staying abreast of all of the new and improved equipment and treatments, such as CT scanners and laser therapy.

Three: Will They Be Able to Personalize Your Treatment Needs?

No matter what your needs may be, you want your first visit to any dentist to leave you feeling like you truly matter and that they will stop at nothing to serve you. Don’t be afraid to set expectations when you have your first dental consultation, and don’t be afraid to look elsewhere if you don’t leave feeling one-hundred-percent confident in your decision.

Four: Do They Accept My Dental Insurance?

Going to a new dental practice for the first time can be nerve wracking enough for plenty of people, and the last thing you want to worry about once your there, is cost. Prior to scheduling your first visit, do you research to make sure their practice is in network with your insurance plan.

Five: How is the Dentist Continuing Their Education?

Nothing can instill confidence in you about seeing a new dentist like knowing that they have gone above and beyond to gain knowledge and experience to provide you with the highest quality of care. Check out their bio section on their practice’s website, and don’t be afraid to ask them about continuing education the first time you meet them.

Six: What do their other patients say about them?

As they say, “the proof is in the pudding.” One of the easiest ways to know whether or not your new practice of choice will fit your needs is to read reviews. See what their current and prior patients are saying about them so that you can decide if their practice is the best fit for you.

If you find yourself in a situation where life is moving you elsewhere, or even to Naperville, make sure research dental practices ahead of time so that you don’t fall behind on your checkups when life gets busy. As always, our doors here at Grand Dental are always open!
